I had the hardest time starting to write this post because I truly cannot believe Charlotte is half a year old, it is hard to imagine life before baby! She is the sweetest baby, loves to cuddle, and is beyond obsessed with her daddy.
We traveled to Beaver Creek, Colorado earlier in the month and she did so great on both flights! She had one really tough night while there (probably from adjusting to the altitude) and did so great the rest of the trip! We had so much fun with family and it was so special for all of us to get to spend so much time with Charlotte in this fun stage that she is currently in!
This month has been one of the hardest for us. After getting back from Colorado we transitioned her out of our room into her crib and the first few nights went really well, and since then it has been really tough! Our really awesome sleeper has left the building! She started waking up 10 times a night and it has been brutal to adjust back to sleepless nights since she has been sleeping through the night since she was 6 weeks old. She is about to get her first tooth, so I think that may be part of what’s keeping her up. She also has been in leap 5 this entire month, and if you follow the Wonder Weeks app, leap 5 is a tough one and has been by far the hardest leap that she has gone through. (updated to add: since ending the leap she is back to sleeping 11-12 hours like a champ!!!)
On top of all of that, a cold hit our house hard and all three of us have been sick for two weeks! Let’s just say, January was not our month and here’s to hoping February is better!!
Changes
The day she turned 5 months old, Charlotte started sitting up! She still is a little wobbly but over the last month has improved so much. She looks like such a big girl sitting up by herself. Her hair has really grown in and we are all surprised by how dark it is! She has always been interested in our dog, but is now obsessed with Lola and nothing is more funny to her than watching her puppy! Lola is also obsessed with Charlotte and it is pretty darn cute watching them together! I have a feeling Lola will be the reason Charlotte starts crawling/walking – she wants to play with her so badly!
Favorite Products
This activity center is still a favorite. We also still love her piano that I have talked about, she now loves to sit up and play on it! We have tried just about every teether and this one is by far her favorite, I highly recommend it!
I talked about this doll on my Insta Story yesterday and wanted to share more about it. If you aren’t into dolls or have a boy, this and this are adorable and similar! Charlotte got the babydoll for Christmas and I have put it in her crib ever since. When you push the tummy it plays the sweetest little lullabies and they turn off after about 20 minutes. It has a night light that stays on for a few minutes, then the nightlight goes off and it continues to play the music for a few more minutes. As she falls asleep, the transition from holding her to putting her in the crib can sometimes cause her to cry and want to still be held. If I have the doll turned on in the crib, she instantly calms down and seems to know it is time to sleep.
Schedule
Her schedule seems to always be evolving. Since she hasn’t been sleeping as well, she is waking up a little bit later. I think she is a night owl like her Mama!
Feed times: 8:30/11:30/2:30/5:00/7:00/9:00
Lee doesn’t get home from work until 7:30 so that’s part of why she goes to bed later. She usually takes 2 long naps a day and 1-2 cat naps. We slowly started introducing solids (purees) two weeks ago and its been so funny to watch her experience food for the first time.
I have learned so much the past six months and am blown away by how life becomes so revolved around your baby. One big thing I have learned is that as soon as we feel like we have it all together, she completely changes! I have definitely been struggling to figure out the never ending balancing act between being a new mom, a wife, friend, daughter, sister/ maintaining a household and working. Any tips, tricks, or books that y’all recommend?! Send them my way!
xo,
Laura
