I have been meaning to share this recipe for years & finally am sitting down to do it! It’s super easy and my girls love it too. I am sharing this directly from an email my mom sent me back in 2010, which makes me smile! And I’m adding in my own notes! 🙂
Ingredients for a double recipe (feeds 6-8, you can half this if you don’t want to make a double batch)
- 2 Pounds Ground Beef
- 1 Teaspoon Minced Garlic
- 1/2 Chopped Yellow Onion (I buy the frozen chopped onions to save time)
- 1 Teaspoon Salt (I never measure the salt and pepper, sorry mom)
- 1/4 Teaspoon Pepper
- 3-4 Cups of Water
- 2 14 Ounce Cans of Tomato Sauce (I use Muir Glen Organic or Hunt’s)
- 2 6 Ounce Cans of Tomato Paste (again Muir Glen Organic or Hunt’s)
- 1 1/2 Teaspoon of Basil
- 1 1/2 Teaspoon of Oregano
- 1 1/2 Teaspoon of Parsley
Instructions:
- Brown (in large pan over medium high heat) ground beef, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and onion. When meat is almost completely cooked, add in garlic & stir well. Once the meat & garlic are fully cooked, add 3-4 cups of water (I typically just add enough to completely cover the meat or the spaghetti gets too watery) stir well and cover. Simmer for 30 minutes (low boil over low heat)
- Next remove lid and add 2 cans tomato sauces, 2 cans tomato paste, basil, oregano, parsley, a dash of pepper and 1/2 teaspoon of salt (or more to taste). Cook over low heat (make sure there’s a low boil going on) uncovered for 1 hour or until thickened.
- While sauce is cooking, cook your pasta as directed on the package. Garnish with parmesan
ENJOY! And let me know if you make it!
xo,
Laura
